Welcome to the first blog everyone! Talking about what I saw when birding.

Went to the furthest place I usually go to when birding, about 35 minutes of biking, but it’s usually worth it. Before even getting there I saw some mallards, magpies, black-headed gulls, a juvenile great crested grebe, a grey heron and some swallows. When I actually got there, I saw a ton of cars in the parking lot and got scared it was overrun with families disturbing the peace but luckily I barely saw any. There were a ton of gray lag geese there and some coots but nothing too special.

Started making my way to the birdwatching shack, it has a great vantage of a lake. In the lake there were a bunch of cormorants and coots. In the shack there was a forest ranger taking pictures of the birds, his camera was twice as big as mine and he had two of them. But it’s not about the size but about how you use it (which he was probably also better at). Was holed up in that shack for about an hour and a half, saw a great egret, another grey heron, some more geese, a little grebe and a fish who’s tail was flipping up out of the water sometimes. Also saw what I think to be kingfisher nests, they dig holes in bits of raised ground and lo and behold I saw some holes. Like 5 groups of people came and went while I was in that shack, no one stays long, except me.

On the way out I looked up at the trees for some songbirds. There were plenty but they were so fast, very hard to ID. Did see a chaffinch and a treecreeper, who you see on the picture. Then I went back home and I think there was a car accident, police was controlling the traffic, hope everyone was okay. Posted the bulk of the pictures I made on twitter so if you want more visuals you can look there.
