Welcome to the second blog! Talking about what I saw when birding.

Today I went to a new spot, 35 minutes of biking to a place where there might be an osprey. My sources said there was an osprey spotted there in the last 7 days and if I’m lucky I could see it too. So off I went. On the way there I saw some crows, rooks, moorhens, magpies, mallards, moorhens and white wagtails.

When I got there the first thing I saw was a Eurasian jay. There was this big lake to circle, in the lake I could see some gulls, coots and mallards. No osprey to be found though. Saw some chaffinches in the trees while I began my walk and I came upon a place with a bench and a good view of the lake. It also had a good view of a dead fish the gulls were eating; I think that fish might’ve been the victim of an osprey. Further on I saw some bugs and butterflies, don’t know what kind though, I only do birds. There was another clearing to look at the lake and from there I saw some Egyptian geese and a grey heron. I encountered a well camouflaged frog while walking. Almost stepped on the poor thing but he jumped out of the way. In between taking pictures of him, I lost track where he was multiple times, might start to give frogs more credit. I then saw another fresher dead fish with more gulls around it, I also spotted a ton of feathers from where a pigeon was attacked. Those feathers had distinct bites taken out of it that looked like they could be from a beak aka the osprey. Got to an open farmland area with I think meadow pipits, but they flew away before I could confirm. Was walking for two hours at this point so I went back to my bike.

On the way back I saw like three, maybe four buzzards, got excited thinking it might be the osprey but no such luck. Spoiler alert I didn’t see the osprey at all, only the remains of its victims. Would’ve been nice to have a belle of the ball like that but I saw cool birds nonetheless. Didn’t see anything too exciting on my way back home. A few barn swallows but that’s about it. To the right is that moorhen I saw, pretty bird.
