Black-Headed Gull

The black-headed gull (latin: Chroicocephalus ridibundus, dutch: kokmeeuw) is a small common gull.

This is a cute common gull that lives in Eurasia. As you might’ve noticed the picture to the right shows a gull without a black head. This is because around autumn and winter they have a white head with some dots, as opposed to a brown head in the summer. Note that I said brown head, I have no clue why they are called black-headed gulls, their heads are either white or brown.

I like these birds, u can obviously find them around bodies of water but u also see them in cities that have water near them. They act like pigeons eating scraps of food from the ground. I think this urban lifestyle is possible due to their smaller size compared to other gulls. But yeah they eat just about anything that isn’t bolted down, but they lack the size of other gulls to steal food out of your hand.

They lay their eggs in their own nests or those of other black-headed gulls. They like to keep their nests clean because this means they are less noticeable. If a nest is full of bright coloured feathers and eggshells the kids are prone to be gobbled up.

I always like seeing these birds, they are not loud or disruptive, they take their time and are nice to be around. They also look absolutely adorable.
