The goldcrest (latin: Regulus regulus, dutch: goudhaan) is a very small but very pretty bird.
This is the smallest european bird and one of the smallest in asia. They are only around 8 cm, which is small enough to fit in your mouth. Haven’t seen these guys that often, you can see them best in the winter because all the leaves are gone.
They hop from tree to tree and from branch to branch looking for little bugs to eat. They are found in foresty areas because they like the trees and bushes. That’s where the bugs are. They survive the winter by using less energy at night. They basically use all the food they found in the day to survive the night. It aint easy being a small cute bird. Luckily, global warming is making the winter more bearable. Unfortunately, that global warming may be the end to us all. You win some you lose some.
