Meadow Pipit

The Meadow pipit (latin: Anthus pratensis, dutch: Graspieper) is a cute beeping bird.

This little bird isn’t all that remarkable, it’s cute though. Brown back and a lighter spotted belly, it’s a bit bigger than a sparrow but smaller than a blackbird. They like big open fields and flying high into the air.

First time seeing these guys was while I was in Texel, which is a tiny island in the Netherlands. Was near the coast and it was a big sandy area with some dunes and some vegetation. This was one of the first guys I saw there. In Dutch they are called “piepers” which literally translated means “beepers”. I figured out why they are called that first-hand. While flying they make a beeping noise that gets quicker the longer they go on, they sound like a bomb that’s about to blow. All those guys did there was fly in the air and release their beeps onto everyone, it was amazing.

They make their nests on the ground and they usually get cucked by the cuckoo. They usually eat bugs but sometimes they eat seeds. There isn’t really much more to say, just a nice loveable bird.
