Western Jackdaw

The western jackdaw (latin: Coloeus monedula, dutch: kauw) is a small common corvid.

Pretty sure this guy is the smallest corvid in the Netherlands, they are cool and pretty. Nice black colouring with some grey, beautiful eyes as well. They live in and around Europe in grasslands and urban areas.

These birds like most corvids are very smart and they are social creatures, just like humans. The live in groups and use their numbers to their advantage, when a predator comes around, they surround them and mob them ‘til they go away.

When they find a partner they stay with them for the rest of their lives, even after they cant produce children anymore. Very cute.

They eat just about everything, from human trash to fresh insects. They even share their food when they can, with other jackdaws and other animals. This is because they are kind of heart, like most birds, but they also have the intelligence to act upon it.
